Bay Area family desperate to find grandmother missing for 1 month

TAMPA, Fla. (FOX 13) - Enabling the power of social media and relying on Facebook to spread the word, Samantha Cummings is hoping to piece together what happened to her 84-year-old grandmother, Lorene Virginia Collier.

Collier was last seen or March 5. She made the trip from Florida to Glencoe, Alabama to visit her two brothers; something she does many times a year.

The woman's family says she was traveling 10 miles from one brother's house to another when she disappeared.

“We called all family in the area thinking maybe she decided to visit someone else, last minute," Cummings said. "When no one heard from her, my great uncles contacted the police.”

Since then, tips have been pouring in from as far south as Mobile, Alabama. One tip came from Cummings’ Facebook post.

“This woman and her husband saw her on March 6 in Mobile, Alabama at a restaurant," Cummings said of the tip. "That she stopped and asked them for directions heading back to Gadsden, [Alabama].”

Gadsden Police Chief Alan Kelly says they followed that tip and dozens of others, but haven't been able to confirm any of them were Collier.

Collier's family said she has not shown signs of memory troubles. They're at a loss.

“She doesn’t have a history of any memory problems like that," she said. "We don't know if it was sudden on-set and maybe she's in a hospital somewhere. At this point, there's literally nothing else I can do except continue to post and share and hope like hell somebody sees her."

Collier is 5-foot 2-inches tall, weighs 135 pounds, and was last seen driving her blue 2019 Kia Optima, with Florida license plate II75MQ. Police say if you know anything, contact the Gadsden, Alabama Police Department.
