Eternal Reef Project memorials placed off Sarasota coast

SARASOTA (FOX 13) - More than 25 memorials now rest at the bottom of the sea.

They’re apart of the Eternal Reef Project.

Families gathered to memorialize their loved ones in a unique way.

Reef balls are made from environmentally safe concrete – with cremated remains of an individual mixed into the cast.

The design creates an artificial reef formation.   

150 people gathered to remember their loved ones. They ended their journey by placing the reef balls just off of Sarasota’s coast.
