Lakeland senior in top 10 for fitness award
LAKELAND (FOX 13) - A Lakeland man is a top 10 finalist for a national fitness award, but he’s not a body builder or distance runner. His story, however, is no less inspirational.
Neil Miller is described as cheerful, fun-loving and a jokester. He is also blind. Miller lost his sight a number of years ago, but friends say you won’t hear him complaining.
At his fitness facility, workers say he memorized the facility – from classrooms to the coffee table – and is the first to help put equipment back where it belongs.
Miller is up for the SilverSneakers Richard L. Swanson Inspiration Award, which honors seniors whose healthy behavior has made a difference in their own life, and has inspired others. He joins nine finalists from around the country and the winner is based on online votes.
