Legoland bringing beach to Winter Haven, block by block

Legoland Florida is expanding again.  A new resort is opening next year at the theme park, offering a beach-side retreat right in Winter Haven.

Wednesday, the park previewed plans for a village-style vacation resort with 83 beach-themed bungalows holding 166 rooms -- all with Lego decor inside and out, of course.

Each bungalow will have a shaded area for mom and dad to relax while the kids explore in the outdoor Lego play area.

"We kind of imagine that these coves will turn into mini block parties," park spokesman David Brady explained, without any hint of an intentional pun.  "It really is designed for that communal experience, more so than you would find in a traditional hotel."

There will also be a pool with a sandy play area, plus a bar and restaurant and a giant Lego lighthouse.

The Legoland Beach Retreat will open April 7.  Rooms will start at $153 a night.
