Major volleyball tournaments heading to Tampa

Forget the "Boys of Summer": the city of Tampa is after the Girls Bringing the Heat!

The Gasparilla Volleyball Classic just wrapped up and the Joseph Volleyball Qualifier and the Tampa United Volleyball SLAM are both coming to the Tampa Convention Center in March.

These gymnasium matchups serves up some 10,000 visitors or more each to the Tampa Bay Area. That's an "Ace" for the city as businesses like hotels and restaurants enjoy the overflow of players and their families in town.

"This (volleyball)  is probably one of the centers favorite events because it does bring together and come unity to spend an entire week here on our premises," said Una Garvey, Acting Convention & Tourism Director for the Tampa Convention Center.

This is the beginning of the "Season of Volleyball" according to Garvey.

The Convention Center is decked out with 40 courts with set up that begins days in advance and play that takes three days to complete with every court being filled with competitors.

The TCC exhibit hall is all set for the USA and Club Division games with plenty of floor space for players and room for parents and other spectators to cheer them on throughout the tournaments.

So as the players seek to spike their competition, the match point goes to the city for playing host to this successful series of tournaments.
