Neighbors save woman's home from foreclosure

HUDSON (FOX 13) - 89-year-old Angie Tyma lived in the same house in Hudson for 35 years, until last month, when she was evicted.

Tyma, who once owned the home, sold it several years ago after her husband passed away to a man who agreed to let her continue to live there by paying rent.

When foreclosure notices began to come in the mail, Tyma realized the man was not using the money to pay the mortgage.

"He lied! I said, 'Your hands are going to burn on the bible,'" said Tyma after speaking to the man, who lives in Europe.

She said once the bank took possession, she and all of her belongings were booted out of the house.

"They were taking all of the stuff out of my house. They threw it in the grass," said Tyma. "I couldn't do nothing about it."

She lived in a Days Inn for three weeks with no where to go.

Tyma said the hardest thing about losing her home was knowing her late husband's ashes were scattered in the water behind the house and three of her deceased pets were buried in the backyard.

"They're all buried in the back, and I just couldn't accept the fact that I could never come back," said Tyma.

She told a neighbor, Danielle Calder, about her situation and asked Calder if she would consider buying her house.

Calder purchased the home and surprised Tyma with the keys in the driveway on her 89th birthday.

"The last thing I needed was another house, but I really wanted to keep her in the neighborhood. Everybody wanted to keep her in the neighborhood," said Calder.

"She always said to me, don't worry, you're going to always live here. she is a good friend," said Tyma.

Tyma was able to move back into her home and is now paying Calder rent to help with expenses.

Tyma said her neighbors came together to gather some of her belongings from her yard once they were tossed from the home, but she lost a lot of her belongings, including furniture and her beloved Christmas decorations.

Tyma is known around her neighborhood for having one of the most elaborate yards.

"When I decorate, I light the whole area. Would you believe they cleaned me out? I had a nativity. I had six angels that big! They took them."

Some of Tyma's neighbors have donated a couple of Christmas decorations, including a new nativity scene and a lighted Santa Claus with reindeer for her front yard to help her get back into the Christmas spirit despite the month-long ordeal.
