Tornado-damaged home was for sale: $1.8-million

A tornado left a mile-long trail of destruction from Siesta Key to mainland Sarasota early Sunday morning, and one of the hardest-hit neighborhoods was along Baywinds Lane.

A couple had to be rescued from the home at 1604 Baywinds after the structure's second floor collapsed.  The woman inside suffered minor cuts and bruises during the rescue; the man was not seriously hurt.

The dramatic scene of destruction stands in striking contrast to the real estate listing for the home, which was on the market for $1.8-million.

The photo gallery on the realtor's website shows what the home looked like before the storm: Colorful, open rooms with sweeping views of the Intracoastal.

"Enjoy beautiful sunsets by your waterfront gazebo," it says.  "This is Florida living at its best."

Tragically, second tornado spawned by the same supercell later killed two people and injured four children when it struck a mobile home in Duette just a few minutes later.
