Admitted food snob found 'love at first bite' in Hernando Beach

Drive on up Shoal Line Blvd. through Hernando Beach and you’ll see about a dozen different restaurant options.  For Mark Burton, though, only one of them matters: R Beach.  That’s why he contacted FOX 13’s Chip Brewster to bring his Bay Area Best segment to the seafood spot.

“We’re going to start off with the Prince Edward Island mussels.  These things will blow your mind,” offered Mark.  “They start with a white wine lemon butter sauce.  This thing is made from scratch.  The chef is just genius what he does to it.”

As a flight attendant, Mark has traveled the country.  Before that, he worked in the restaurant industry traveling the world.  He makes it a point to try the local cuisine everywhere he lands.  However, finding R Beach has nothing to do with those jobs save for a small connection – one of the owners is a flight attendant alongside him.

“When she first invited me out here, I was like, ‘Oh boy that’s like an hour drive for me from where I live,’ and I kind of like pushed it off and finally I made the drive,” Mark recalled. “When you finally arrive and start to eat this, it’s worth every minute for every bite.”

Of everywhere he’s been, he ranks R Beach in his top three favorite restaurants.

“I am a little bit of a food snob,” Mark admitted. “But I sat at that bar down there at the end, that tiki hut – love at first bite.”
