Allegiant flight to St. Pete aborts takeoff for mechanical issues
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (FOX 13) - Allegiant Airlines said a flight from Fort Wayne, Indiana to St. Petersburg aborted takeoff due to mechanical issues Saturday morning.
The airline said flight 891 from FWA to PIE safely aborted the takeoff and returned to the gate after pilots were alerted to a mechanical issue and reports of smoke in the cabin.
Emergency personnel decided the aircraft was safe to return to the gate and the 153 passengers went back inside the airport. There were also six crew members onboard the plane.
The aircraft was taken out of service and Allegiant maintenance workers were evaluating the cause of the problem.
A replacement aircraft and crew were dispatched and the new estimated time of departure was 5:10 p.m. EST. Passengers were provided food and beverage service at the gate and $200 off vouchers for future travel.
