Epstein files: Latest documents mention Elon Musk, Steve Bannon, Prince Andrew
Oversight Committee releases batch of Epstein files
Jeffrey Epstein's estate began handing documents over to Capitol Hill lawmakers on Monday. This is pursuant to a subpoena issued by the House Oversight Committee last month. Following this, the Oversight Committee released new files related to Epstein. LiveNOW’s Mike Pache is learning about the latest releases with Kaelan Deese, a Justice Department reporter for the Washington Examiner.
WASHINGTON -
The latest batch of Jeffrey Epstein files mention prominent names like Elon Musk, Steve Bannon, Peter Thiel and Prince Andrew.
On Friday, Democrats on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released partial records from the third batch of documents produced by the Jeffrey Epstein Estate.
In the third batch, the committee received 8,544 documents responsive to the Committee’s subpoena from August.
Jeffrey Epstein files include transactions, daily schedules
What we know:
The documents produced by the Jeffrey Epstein Estate include phone message logs from 2002-2005, copies of flight logs and manifests for aircrafts, copies of financial ledgers reflecting transactions recorded as cash transactions for Epstein and business entities, and Epstein’s daily schedules between 2010 and 2019. The documents produced to the public include mentions of possible contact between Jeffrey Epstein and prominent figures including, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Steve Bannon, and Prince Andrew.
Further review of the documents, which were redacted to protect the identity of victims, is ongoing.
What they're saying:
"It should be clear to every American that Jeffrey Epstein was friends with some of the most powerful and wealthiest men in the world," Oversight spokesperson Sara Guerrero, said in a statement. "Every new document produced provides new information as we work to bring justice for the survivors and victims. Oversight Democrats will not stop until we identify everyone complicit in Epstein’s heinous crimes. It’s past time for Attorney General Bondi to release all the files now."
Dig deeper:
Within documents of Epstein’s schedule, there is evidence that Thiel and Bannon had scheduled meetings with Epstein, as well as evidence of a pending trip by Elon Musk to Epstein’s island, according to the Oversight Committee
Prince Andrew is listed as a passenger on Epstein’s aircraft, with financial disclosures providing possible evidence of payments from Epstein to masseuses on behalf of an individual identified as "Andrew."
GOP accuses Democrats of ‘cherry picking’ documents
The other side:
According to Axios, Committee Democrats did not give Republicans advance notice before releasing the documents, and the GOP side accused them of "cherry-picking" documents while concealing others that could implicate Democratic officials.
"It's unfortunate that Democrats continue to meaninglessly cherry-pick documents and politicize this investigation," a spokesperson for the Oversight Committee's Republicans told Axios. "They are intentionally withholding documents that contain names of Democrat officials, and the information they released today is old news. We are focused on delivering transparency and accountability for the survivors, and will release documents in full."
What's next:
This is a rolling production, and the Committee expects to receive more documents in response to these and other requests.
