WINTER HAVEN (FOX 13) - A Haines City High School teacher was arrested for sending sexually explicit messages even after learning the boy was a teenager, police say.
Robin Dunlap, 27, turned herself into Winter Haven police in September and admitted to sending nude photos to a 15-year-old in Texas. She said she sent nude photos before she learned of his real age, police say, and the boy represented himself as a 19-year-old throughout conversations they had over in the Xbox One console.
The conversations moved to the app, Kik, where they texted and used video chat. The victim’s mother checked her son’s phone, and through the phone informed Dunlap her son was 15, not 19. That’s when Dunlap turned herself in, police say.
However, since September, detectives learned from the victim’s father that Dunlap continued to have conversations with the Texas teen through Google Hangouts. On Sunday, detectives met with the teacher at her home, where she admitted she continued to speak to the teenager.
According to a press release, Dunlap said he was the only person who understood her. She gave investigators consent to look at her phones. They found a conversation that stemmed from November 26 through December 11 that “slowly progressed to extremely vulgar and sexually explicit language,” the release read.
"There is absolutely no excuse for an adult - especially a high school teacher - to continue sexually explicit conversations with a 15-year-old long after his real age is revealed," said Winter Haven Police Chief Charlie Bird in a statement. "The vulnerable age of this victim and the fact that this woman took advantage of him for her own personal needs is inexcusable."
Dunlap was charged with transmitting material harmful to minor and using a communication device to commit a felon.
