Siesta Key beach is a lot cleaner after a busy Memorial Day weekend left it trashed.

A Sarasota man took video of the litter-filled beach Tuesday morning.

Volunteers took to the beach Wednesday to try and clean up before the trash was washed or blown into the Gulf of Mexico.

Sarasota County said there was a "typical increase" in the amount of trash left behind on beaches during the holiday weekend, and there were extra dumpsters in place to accommodate what was being left behind. The county said by 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, beaches were reported clear and back to normal.

Even still, the JDub's Brewing street team showed up to help clean the beach.

Scientists with Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota said they're very concerned the trash could hurt marine life in the area. They say beach visitors have to clean up after themselves.
