TAMPA (FOX 13) - Police are looking for the vehicle and its driver responsible for the death of a pedestrian on E. Columbus Drive early Saturday morning.
The Tampa Police Department says one of its sergeants found the victim lying in the middle of the road, just west of the railroad tracks, breathing but unresponsive.
The man was taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries, which were consistent with having been hit by a vehicle.
Investigators say they found some personal belongings and a skateboard near where the victim was found. They have not yet determined whether the man was possibly riding or carrying the skateboard.
Surveillance video from a building in the area may have caught images of the involved vehicle heading eastbound on Columbus around the time of the fatal hit-and-run.
The victim has been identified as a 38-year-old man. His next of kin were still being notified of his death.
Anyone with information that leads to the identification and location of the driver of the vehicle that struck the victim is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
