Temperatures stay chilly Friday, more freeze warnings early Saturday before big warmup

Temperatures will stay well below average in the Tampa Bay area on Friday and again Saturday for the Gasparilla Pirate Fest, but a big warmup is on the way during the latter part of the weekend.

Friday forecast

Big picture view:

Friday began with a freeze warning in effect for Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties, but temperatures stayed above the freezing mark in most areas.

Sunshine returned by midday Friday. A north wind is keeping temps down, though, with the high only reaching the mid-50s.

"Just getting that sun back on your face and your body is going to feel really, really nice," FOX 13 Meteorologist Dave Osterberg said.

Clouds will clear on Friday, making way for increased sunshine.

Increased sunshine should allow the afternoon high to reach the low 60s in Tampa for the parade, Osterberg says.

Warmer temperatures coming

Timeline:

Temperatures will not approach the freezing mark on Sunday morning, with lows in the 40s expected, and it only gets warmer from there, according to Osterberg.

"On Sunday afternoon, some of us are going to push that 70 degree mark," Osterberg said.

The warming trend continues into next week, with highs finally climbing back above average to the mid 70s by mid-week.

Temperatures will stay cool through Saturday, then a big warmup arrives.

We shouldn't have to deal with a big chill again for a while, Osterberg says, as temps could stay above normal at least into early February.
