HOMOSASSA, Fla. - As Hurricane Milton works its way toward Florida, here's what people in Hernando County need to know.
Hernando County Evacuations:
Mandatory Evacuations have been issued for all areas west of US 19, which includes evacuation zones A, B, and C. All residents living in coastal and low-lying areas, as well as manufactured homes county wide, are included.
Hernando County Closings:
Hernando County government offices will close due to Hurricane Milton. All non-essential county government operations will be closed on Tuesday through Friday.
Hernando County Shelters:
Residents seeking safe shelter are encouraged to arrive at their planned location by 12pm on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

Hernando County Sandbags:
Hernando County opened the following sandbag sites, beginning Sunday, October 6, 2024, and will run daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.

- Andeson Snow Park, 1360 Anderson Snow Rd., Spring Hill
- Ridge Manor Community Center, 34240 Cortez Blvd.
- Spring Lake Methodist Church, 4191 Spring Lake Hwy, Brooksville
Hernando County Schools:
All Hernando schools and district offices will be closed Tuesday through Friday. All activities and events through Friday are also canceled.
Pasco-Hernando State College operations will be remote on Monday, October 7. All in-person classes will be held remotely. Students should contact instructors for instructions. Employees will perform duties remotely under the direction of their supervisors and all in-person student services are suspended. Virtual student services will be available.
PHSC will be closed on Tuesday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 9.
